Lex school activities

An update from Lex's teaching staff:



Last night we were very lucky to receive a wonderful gift from Charlies family - LEMONS from their tree!!!!! 

There are so many different possibilities with what we could do with lemons but we thought we'd start with something simple - Lemonade! So when we split in to our small groups today (after being interrupted by a fire drill) those who had chosen 'making lemonade' as their small group (Charlie, Frannie, Marvin, Ava, Alexa and Nora) joined me at the table. We discussed what ingredients we needed to make lemonade; "Lemons" was the first response from all, then Frannie added "a little bit of sugar", and Marvin suggested "water". Once we had determined what ingredients we needed we got to work squeezing our lemons for their lemon juice. We began by trying some of the lemon juice as well, which everyone agreed was "sour", then got to work making juice for our lemonade. Everyone had a turn with the lemon juicer, while also squeezing their lemons with their hands to get the juice out while they waited for a turn. 

Once it was decided we had enough lemon juice we dissolved our 'little bit of sugar' in some hot water and added it to the pitcher with cold water and the lemon juice. Once it was ready we took it to the back yard (with a quick stop at the MK for some cups) and shared our freshly made lemonade with everyone!

As Lex continues his journey in the Tiger Beetle classroom, we have observed Lex taking new risks in climbing the outdoor structures, sliding down the pole, climbing the slide and taking aim and throwing the basketball into the hoop. Lex’s confidence and risk taking is seen through these new adventures.

Learning Outcomes:

Perceptual development: understanding of one’s body in relationship to the surroundings through the senses, taking risks to discover one’s body’s possibilities and making informed choices of which motor actions to take

Gross motor: developing large body muscles and coordinating a variety of movements such as walking, jumping, sliding, leaping, tossing kicking and catching




Just like his gross motor abilities, Lex continues to investigate new materials through his fine motor capabilities. One of Lex’s favorite places to be is at the sensory table. He piles up sand in small containers, transports corks with thongs or uses a tiny spoon to deposit watercolor into ice.

Learning Outcomes:

Fine motor: developing small body muscles and coordinate fine movement of fingers for manipulating and using materials and tools
